A wonderful sequel to the Marann

Daughters Suralia Tales Tolari ebook

Daughters Suralia Tales Tolari ebook

I've been waiting anxiously for Daughters of Suralia for months, since I read The Marann.

This was a challenging book and really brought home that even though the Tolari are humanlike, they think differently than humans and they will act in different ways from humans. Consequently, some of the actions that propel the plot forward will challenge some readers. I think this is great, because if I wanted to read a romance about a culture that is the same as mine, well, then, I'd have picked up a Harlequin Romance. Daughters of Suralia is definitely not that. The author is clear that the differences ARE hard for her human characters to take. She doesn't make them acquiesce to everything that is strange and hard to understand. And it's not all sunny days, either.

The writing was good, I understood where things were going and unlike so many self-published books, this one was edited so there weren't any grammar, spelling or punctuation howlers to interrupt the flow. I am looking forward to more books about the Tolari and their interactions with the humans as well as the other races of space.

Thank you, Christie Meierz, for another lovely book.

  2. I'm not that great at writing these things. But I want the author to know that I loved this book. I like that she doesn't make the alien so human. He isn't human and his motivations shouldn't be human. Keep on writing about the Tolari.

  5. I'm of the opinion this is one of the more interesting Science Fiction stories available today. I'd be very disappointed if the alien Tolari had the same sensibilities as the human Marianne so when the cultures clash and cause Marianne anguish I'm rooting for her to make the leap and truly begin to assimilate. I'm familiar with the phenomena of transplants not truly knowing a language until they dream in it and I'd assert they haven't assimilated the culture until they can accept the mores of that culture at face value. If Marianne chose to remain human then she'd be well within her rights to maintain human mores but she made the choice to become Tolari--so it's time for her to assimilate. Bravo Ms. Meierz, stick to your guns and ignore the troll.

  6. I was delighted to find that once again Christie Meierz has written a captivating story, an excellent sequel to The Marann. The imaginative world of Tolari Space continues to unfold with well developed characters. We are caught up in a story that takes place on a world where everyone can read your emotions. I was happy to see that the relationship between Marianne and Sural continued to be developed. Two additional relationships wonderfully unfold perhaps promising more stories in the future.
