"Even a man who is pure at heart . . ."

The Wolfman Anthony Hopkins

The Wolfman Anthony Hopkins

As I sat in my movie seat willfully ignoring the four other people, I imagined I had the whole theater to myself. I was looking forward to seeing a movie that was based on my Dad's favorite monster, the Wolfman. I had no idea what to expect and then The Wolfman started and once the howling and screaming began, this movie didn't let up until the end.
I loved the gothic setting with the beautiful gloomy and dreary atmosphere of the funeral that invoke feelings of past Hammer Horror greatness. The classic movie monsters will always be my favorite films of childhood. To get this out in the open, I hate remakes and the idea that Universal was going to bring The Wolfman back to life filled me with dread. Once again, Hollywood would be taking wonderful past memories and stomping the life out of them. Not in this case and I am glad I was wrong.
The original Wolfman had fine performances from Lon Chaney Jr. and Bela Lugosi. Curt Siodmak's screenplay brought the Wolfman to life. Siodmak injected a several good ideas into his screenplay such as silver bullets. Past Universal Horror movies was based on great literature as in the cases of Frankenstein and Dracula. I applaud Siodmak for tackling a film without a novel to work from.
Then came Hammer who rejected the classic movie monsters with British blood and a lot gore, which was extreme for that time.
Now Universal comes full circle and updates all the gore, violence, and suspense that made the original so much fun.
Rick Baker's makeup is just fantastic and I was glad that CGI didn't ruin the new Wolfman. The CGI that was used was fine and I didn't really realize it until I saw the bear which I forgave the filmmakers for because a real bear would have up the costs and some actor would have probably lost a much needed limp.
Danny Elfman's score is haunting and builds up suspenseful scenes almost to the point of discomfort. I love the scenes where Lawrence Talbot is sneaking around his father's house and you hear a little uneasy music and then silence. Silence in Horror movies is the worst time because it is a lot like being at the top of a rollarcoaster, its just going to stop your heart once you get over the hump. Then the silence is invaded by Elfman's intense score. Also, seeing The Wolfman in a theater with a good loud sound system helps out a lot too.
The real star of The Wolfman is Benicio Del Toro who does a great job portraying Lawrence Talbot. Equally good is Sir Anthony Hopkins as Talbot's father and the always lovely Emily Blunt as Lawrence's love interest, and Hugo Weaving as Detective Francis Aberline. Weaving is great as the detective driven to save the village from werewolves and all the resulting deaths that werewolves accomplish during a rage.
I don't think any fan who grew up on the classic movie monsters will have any problems seeing The Wolfman. This movie gives Horror films a much needed revamp with Horror is at an all time low. This is the way to take a classic movie and update it with modern tricks. Director Joe Johnston does a great job with the material.
I hope the Universal with revamp Frankentein, Dracula, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, and the Invisible Man in a similar vein.
Other Werewolves movies that have gave me countless, wonderful sleepless nights are The Wolfman (1941), Werewolf of London (1935), Curse of the Werewolf (1961), The Howling (1981), The Company of Wolves (1984), Wolfen (1981), Frankenstein meets the Wolfman (1943), An American Werewolf in London (1981), Silver Bullet (1985), and Ginger Snaps (2000). There was also an execellent short live series on TV called Werewolf that aired on Fox in the 80's. Also a nod to Marvel's Werewolf by Night. Stephen King gave us Cycle of the Werewolf (1985, see Silver Bullet for the film based on the book.) And last but not least Warren Zevon singing Werewolves of London.

It's not about the plot

Conjugal Love Alberto Moravia

Conjugal Love Alberto Moravia

imho the entire plot, as well as the characters of Leda (the wife) and Antonio (the cuckolding barber), are nothing more than a framework that Moravia constructs on which to hang a portrait of a completely failed man. A man who, in existentialist terms (and it's completely an existentialist novel) has no authenticity, who merely exists but does not live his life. In this case, he examines his life (or better his behavior, not exactly the same thing since behavior is just the observable manifestation of what's going on inside a person) incessantly, 24/7. Instead of living he thinks about living, makes up stories -- excuses -- about his behavior, thinks incessantly about himself but uses all these thoughts and stories in order to avoid ever connecting with himself. Instead of being and living, he tells stories about what he does. In the end, faced with the crisis of his wife's betrayal, he cowardly retreats from any emotion, doesn't even talk about it with his wife (much less the barber), and just continues his inauthentic, empty, meaningless life.

A great novel, wonderfully written, can be read in one evening, and should be enough to scare any reader into abandoning whatever phony acts the reader may be using to fool himself and/or those around him, and instead dive into and thus create a real life for him/herself.

The View Here Deborah Mckinlay

The View Here Deborah Mckinlay

In England, Frances and Phillip have been married for two decades. They have no children of their own, but they raised his daughter Chloe, whose mother abandoned her. In her forties, Frances learns she suffers from a malignant tumor. Stunned Phillip leaves London where he worked on his latest marketing book to return to their rural home to help his beloved wife.

However Frances feels betrayed as she has found a romantic letter that ties her husband to his book editor Josee, the London-based editor of his books. Instead of confronting Phillip, Frances follows him to London where she sees him say goodbye to Josee. As she knows she is dying, she looks back to herself in 1976 as a twentyish woman in Mexico eking out a living by teaching English. There she met three wealthy selfish American couples (Patsy and Richard, Bee Bee and Ned, and Sally and Mason) who she initially cannot distinguish between the extender Severance family members. However, she and Mason have an affair; which she rationalized by blaming Sally until she realizes her lover was having sex with Patsy too. As her death looms, Frances relooks at her relationship with Phillip who she knows loved her though he betrayed her.

The View from Here is that this is an engaging insightful character study. The story line contrasts Frances as twenty-two years old who believed she could do anything and selfishly went after whatever or whoever she desires without a care for others; vs. the forty something dying Frances who is no long shallow as she has cared for others like Chloe and forgives her beloved Phillip for his indiscretions. The protagonist will have readers ponder whether the sums of a person's good deeds and bad deeds can be accrued like debits and credits on an accounting journal.

A welcomed Christmas Gift.

Invicta Womens Diver Collection Gold Tone

Reef McKenna, the prodigal brother, has returned home. However, his family's joy is short-lived. A young woman is murdered nearby and two witnesses place Reef at the scene of the crime, covered in the victim's blood. The Sheriff is up for re-election and wants nothing more than a swift proceeding. With all the evidence pointing to Reef, they immediately arrest him and place him on trial, in spite of his adamant claims of innocence.

Piper McKenna knows her brother. Despite his flaws, he could never kill anyone and she is determined to prove it, with or without Detective Landon Grainger's help. Her investigation uncovers a much bigger plot -- a dangerous motorcycle club and cover-up are just the beginning. Her search for answers places Piper in the crosshairs of a killer who has no qualms of murdering again if it means keeping the truth from surfacing.

Intrigue and danger lurk within the pages of Dani Pettrey's novel, Shattered, as readers return to Yancey, Alaska for another spellbinding adventure. The author creates some of the most enjoyable and engaging characters I've ever come across. I love Landon and Piper's relationship as they discover that they don't just care about each other like a brother and sister as they always believed. As the series progresses, I'm more and more drawn in by Jake, the mysterious stranger the McKenna family has taken in as one of their own. I hope we learn some of his secrets in future books. There's also Gage and his struggles to face his demons and come to terms with the loss of his son. These are just a few of the fascinating people we meet throughout the Alaskan Courage Series.

Pettrey builds a world that captures the reader with vivid and compelling descriptions. She has a way of making frigid, snowy Alaska sound cool (no pun intended!). I wanted to throw on my heaviest, winter coat and thick boots to jump right into the adventure. I'm now anxiously awaiting the next installment that, in my opinion, won't come fast enough. I strongly recommend this novel to romantic suspense fans. While Shattered can stand alone, you won't want to miss Submerged, the first book in the series.

A serious look

Thirty Blu ray Combo UltraViolet Digital

Thirty Blu ray Combo UltraViolet Digital

Zero Dark Thirty (2012) is the best movie that I've seen in 2013. The story is gripping, the acting is outstanding, and you walk away feeling that you've witnessed something significant and moving.

Jessica Chastain plays Maya, an intelligence officer obsessed with finding Usama Bin Laden ("UBL"). Maya spends about ten years of her life chasing various meandering leads, pressing her superiors to follow her research and hunches, and finally, as we know, all the zealous effort results in a monumental and historical raid and kill. Chastain is great as Maya; you won't recognize her in comparison to her performance as the ditzy, blond stay-at-home wife in The Help. The access that the filmmakers must have had to CIA and other intelligence personnel to create Maya's character made the story and character true to form, even if some of it turns out to be false.

The torture scenes during the first of the film are over-hyped. I was expecting much worse. By today's movie violence standards, the torture was tame and not gruesome. The unwarranted controversy that Zero Dark Thirty has created stems from the implication that torture led to information, which led to UBL's comeuppance. That implication is clear, but I did not walk away thinking that this film condones torture or "enhanced interrogation techniques." On the contrary, later in the film it becomes clear that the intelligence community's use of such tactics has been criticized publicly and politically, actually jeopardizing the license to conduct an all-out manhunt by any means. To say that a message of this film is that "torture works" is incorrect.

UBL is only in a few minutes of this film, but Maya's obsession with finding him makes him a of pot of gold or trophy. We learn a lot about how Al Qaeda ran its operations in the 2000s, relying upon some very primitive means of communication (basically person-to-person) to spread messages between key operatives and their underlings. UBL was at the top, but he was in deep hiding for years after 9/11. The interspersing of scenes of other terrorist acts linked to or credited to Al Qaeda builds the drama and importance of bagging the trophy, UBL.

The portrayal of the raid of UBL's fortress in Pakistan is brilliantly executed. It is believable. It is terrifying. It is, ultimately, gratifying. Knowing that things went wrong during the raid (a helicopter crash, for instance), leaving the top folks in U.S. government on pins and needles for dozens of harrowing, nail-biting minutes, this portion of the film has a tinge of dread throughout. You are just waiting for a Navy Seal to get shot, stabbed, or maimed. When they "get their man," the reactions of relief, disbelief, pride, and a continued focus on completing the mission are great acting and filmmaking.

See this film. It may not be a History Channel documentary and, therefore, its accuracy is not beyond question, but as entertainment it is top notch. You can't ask much more of your movie than to build human drama, create procedural suspense, and execute fast-moving action in a carefully constructed package.

This was a Wonderful Romance

Great Protector ebook

Great Protector ebook

It is not often you read about a husband who practically raised his wife - but it sure works in this story. It is so touching! I couldn't put it down. The cover is just fabulous too! The brother in this story is such a hoot! I could easily sit in their banquet hall and just listen to everything that would be going on. It sounds like there was never a dull moment in that family.

What can I say more about Richmond - sigh. He was just truly dedicated and in love with his "ward." They both loved each other for a while before they expressed their feelings to each other. Who wouldn't love a hero like this man, because I sure would! What he wouldn't do for this lady!

I assumed that everything did work out for them in the end. I think if it didn't end well the author would have put it in there, and she didn't, so it ended well.

Thank you Ms. LeVeque for a very romantic and emotionally touching story!

Gattinoni W0223GSTBLK Zircons Planetarium Leather

Gattinoni W0223GSTBLK Zircons Planetarium Leather

Such a great story! Probably one of the best YA Contemporary I've read this year. Emily Murdoch has written a gritty, but powerful book. I can't imagine living in the same circumstances.

Carey is a strong character. She does what she can in order to keep Janessa safe. Her little sister is all that matters to her. As long as Janessa is okay, Carey is fine. Carey has had to go through some awful situations while living in the woods. I was in tears after seeing what this poor girl had been through. I don't want to get too much into it because I don't want to give anything away, but it will break your heart. Janessa is absolutely the sweetest thing ever. She's timid, and shy. Everyone thinks that she isn't smart because she refuses to talk, but she's very intelligent. Janessa is completely in tune to Carey's emotions. She knows when her sister wants comfort.

It's amazing how these characters adjusted to a new way of living after being in the woods for their entire life. It's basically like stepping into a completely different world. The girls don't know any of the pop culture references, and have trouble with the slang and things people say. The one thing that seems to bring Carey some sense of comfort is her violin and Ryan. Of course there would be boy problems. All teenage girls experience them. She just doesn't know what Ryan wants out of being friends with her. You have to wonder if he's going to laugh about her or if his intentions are noble.

I've recommended this book so many times since I've read it, and I can't tell y'all enough, this is a MUST read. It's heartbreaking and uplifting at the same time. Sometimes you can change your circumstances, and you don't owe those who take care of you. They do it because they love you, not because they expect something in return.

Be sure to grab the tissues, you'll definitely need them. This book is extremely touching.

Loving and Learning

English Patient Everymans Classics Contemporary

English Patient Everymans Classics Contemporary

It's hard to believe Ondaatje wasn't inspired, above all else, by "Wuthering Heights," especially in his characterization of a Katherine and Almasy whose obsession with love as possession is a latter-day equivalent of the undifferentiated passion of Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff. And Ondaatje's related but contrasting pair of lovers, Hana and Kip, appear to occupy a place comparable with Bronte's Cathy Linton and Hareton, whose recognition of each other's separateness at least holds forth the promise of a relationship between two individuals.

But Ondaatje surprises us. His Kip and Hana finally retreat to the boundaries of nationality, race, and past traditions, reclaiming for themselves as much identity as such markers are capable of offering. In "The English Patient" Almasy plays both the roles of Heathcliff and Hareton. It is the latter who is redeemed from the primitive through the books Cathy finally shares with him, teaching him to separate himself from the primeval natural principle and to love. Almasy learns much the same from his Kathy, who shows him the true meaning of Herodotus, of history, of words themselves. He learns he cannot remain a free agent, avoiding responsibility and "ownership," because without incurring debts to another person, agency is pointless and freedom is an illusion. Almasy must lose his fabricated identity--symbolized by the "features," or mere markers, of history, the desert, and the physical body--in order to gain his soul, which turns out to be Kathy.

When Almasy makes good on his promise and returns to the cave, the necrophilia scene (as subtle as any in all literature--compare its obvious counterpart in "Wuthering Heights") is an electric and electrifying intercourse of tongues, an exchange of lying words for a shared language. Kathy's sacrifice in taking into herself the old words of Almasy is her answer to his own sacrifice, an exorcism of the qualified, secretive language Almasy had formerly insisted on calling love. With that act Almasy is transformed from "demon lover" to lover, from a desert nomad and recorder of landmarks to co-author of and mutual participant in a new "text," an authentic discourse of love between two independent people who ultimately relate as one.

To those who distrust the story's representations of history, remember that the story itself questions all such representations. Which is not to say it's a "romance." It's a love story--above all, a love "history," and as such it rings as true as any history since Emily Bronte's.

Wenger Military 62960 Grenadier Stainless Steel

I bought this scale used (it was an Amazon Warehouse Return item), and have been using it now for a little over 2 months. So far I have no reason to doubt its accuracy. I couldn't care less if it was off by a couple tenths of a pound, it most certainly is not off by any great amount. The results shown are always consistent ... I've tested it by weighing myself multiple times in a day and could see the indicated weight go up a bit after I ate, but it was never a radical change in indicated weight.

Aside from the very attractive design, another aspect of this scale that I really like is that the feet hold it a couple inches off the floor. Since I keep this scale in my bathroom, this helps keep it clean. I've had other glass scales that were low to the ground and all kinds of debris and dust regularly gathered underneath and required more regular cleaning. With this scale's raised-legged stance, I can vacuum the floor and not have to flip the scale over to clean out junk stuck underneath.

The "instant on" feature is also really nice. Other scales require you to tap a button or the platen before it will activate, and some require a pretty hefty poke to activate. This one you just step on, and it weighs you. No dancing around or jumping up and down, just step and weigh.

Unbelievably entertaining; I can't wait for Charlie's next adventure.

First we meet the young and beautiful actress Lane, whose career is on the upswing after a slump. the slump, as it's slowly revealed, was caused by bad deeds Lane covered up and with which she cannot live. And as it turns out, other powerful entities can't let her live as long as there is a chance Lane will seek absolution. Believing Lane is on the verge of confession, killers come for her but Lane lives through the first attempt on her life by seeking shelter in the unoccupied home of a friend.

Now, he is a house sitter, arriving at a certain unoccupied house only to be surprised by - you guessed it - Lane, who tries to kill him, thinking he is her assassin. I love the book. After, I started to read it I could not put it down. I read when I can. You can see the events in your mind as you read. I admire the author. I can tell she told the truth. The book shed light on Cambodian culture, history, legends, and the horror genocide, and more importantly you will have a better understanding on Cambodia's political situation at the time and how it affected the current politics. Most Khmer people who lived through these horrors do not wanted to be reminded of them so they do not past on the events to their children. My parents are also survivors. They never told me much about the era but whatever they told me I kept it in my heart. I grew up in America. I never had a sense of belonging. This book made me understand my people's past and I hope now that I have learned this I can somehow make sure it is not forgotten and most of all I hope this horror do not repeat itself. Please, I recommend this book to everyone especially to all Khmer people. I wish they can make a movie out of this. Its a very touching autobiography.

Praise for Gypsy!!

Gypsys Meadow ebook

Gypsys Meadow ebook

When Understanding Is Passed On...
Gypsy's Meadow is a beautiful little book written by a mother and daughter team to honor the horses they had lost. In a very touching, but not gruesome way they let you know the hardships these particular horses had suffered before they came home to be theirs. They also let you know that the horses chose to belong to them and share their spirits.
There is nothing like the love of a mother and child, it ranks right above the love of a girl and her horse. There is something spiritual about the love of a young girl and a horse. The fact that this mother and daughter were both able to share that bond is amazing. It is an awesome little book well told and illustrated in a childlike manner.
The horses eventually move on, but the story of love and trust with redemption is so well told that it is totally worth the emotional journey to read it. The proceeds of this book are to go to the horse rescue that provided these amazing horses to allow this tale to be told. It is a book that will touch you whether you are an adult or a child. Definitely worth reading if you are a horse lover and especially worth reading if you have ever owned a rescue horse.
If you have never owned a horse, rescue or not, you cannot help but feel the love spill off these pages as the mother and daughter author team pay their respects to some amazing animals that defiantly shaped their lives.
I give this book 5 out of 5 stars and I thank the authors for sharing it with me.

Stuhrling Original 129A2 33155 Thunderbolt Automatic

Stuhrling Original 129A2 33155 Thunderbolt Automatic

I was looking forward to seeing this movie for some time now, but could not because Wild Parrots did not play in the area I live in. Thankfully, it finally came out on DVD just recently! And today this wonderful film exceeded my expecations. Mark Bittner and the birds he befriended, fed and studied make for a fantastic subject of a truly moving documentary. I learned so much and was just simply fascinated with his insight on the birds and their relationships with him and with each other within the flock. The colors of the birds was incredibly captured as was the city of San Francisco and Telegraph Hill. I am a bird lover, but do not own a bird or keep one in a cage. I hope that people will see this movie and think about the living soul of all creatures and be as touched as I was with what Mark and Judy had to say with such elegant simplicity and care.

Love Will Heal Pain!

Passions Prey Shadow Shifters Arthur

Passions Prey Shadow Shifters Arthur

OMG is all I could say after reading the third installment to the Shadow Shifters' series. At the end of Seduction's Shift readers knew the next shifter to fall was the sexy and mysterious FBI agent Xavier or as known to his friends X. Everyone realized it would take a strong woman to capture this jaguar's heart and who better to take up the gauntlet but none other than Nick's sister Caprise. Sparks and instant attraction were recognized initially in Seduction's Shift and continue throughout the pages of Passion's Prey until readers will need a pitcher of ICE COLD water when starting this story. X and Caprise's story will bring several emotions and will have readers cheering and celebrating this couple's journey to love. There were some hilarious scenes in this story and some off the chain love scenes.

Ms. Arthur did an outstanding job in developing X's and Caprise's relationship by allowing readers to experience and feel the pain each carried with them. Readers will fall in love with X and fall even more in love with this series. Excellent read.

The measuring stick for the rest of the series

Star Trek Generation Season Blu ray

Star Trek Generation Season Blu ray

The appearance of the third season box set is no different than the first two. The interior folder for the DVDs, the small fold out booklet, and the listing of which episode is on which DVD is the same as the other two seasons. The difference happens when you put the DVD in. Instead of showing clips of the episodes one after another, the screen is divided into four sections, with clips of each episode playing simultaneously. I think this is a nice change, it's a bit distracting to try and watch all four sets of clips, but if you're looking for one episode in particular, this cuts down on the waiting.

The third season is essentially like the first two, there's special features on the last DVD, and the episodes are laid out the same way on each disk. The consistency is really nice, and if it continues through the whole set it will end up being a nice collectable for Star Trek: The Next Generation fans.

...suddenly need a stack of quarters all over again...

Wreck It Ralph Blu ray Digital Copy

Wreck It Ralph Blu ray Digital Copy

I must say, this movie sort of blind-sided me. I expected it to be much more of a "hey look, famous character!" type of film. But I was pleasantly surprised.

In honest truth I saw the movie solely based on the huge poster with Sonic the Hedgehog at the front of the pack. The advertising campaign did not do the film justice. But after watching the film (over 7 times I might add, gotta love the $1 theatre), I realized that it is about an original character on his own journey, not just a cameo-fest. Albeit there were many cameos, but they were subtle and didn't take away from the plot of the movie. For example, in some scenes you can see graffiti on the wall with stuff like "no campers" or "Sheng Long was here," and in one scene there is a wall in the background with hand-drawn pictures of many famous characters like Tails Prowler and Galaga, which give a little thumbs-up to the people who recognize them. Some things, like Hero's Duty, can look very similar to another game like Halo in appearance, but not story. If anything that helps to familiarize the audience, otherwise it just comes off as a generic space marine. The most surprising part to me was how well the actors and actresses filled their role. Typically I don't like Sarah Silverman because she is a rather crude comic, but she makes a completely believable and endearing character in the film, ironically becoming my favorite. Another important note, the 8-bit animation and the score for the film are outstanding. I felt like I was really in an arcade.

Overall, the animation of the film was smooth, the visuals were pleasing and not too flashy, the story had a solid ground built on true plot mechanics with some unique arcade-themed features (such as the surge-protector gateway), good soundtrack, and the cast of appealing characters. I guarantee you will find at least one character you like that IS NOT a cameo. Adults might not find the movie nearly as enjoyable (I'm 21) because a lot of it revolves around the hero of the film making his place; perhaps unrelatable to older generations. Although I personally believe it is a universal theme. From a film-student's point of view, there are subtle things throughout the movie that only adults will understand; a classic Disney trademark.

It was a light-hearted adventure populated by some comedy, cameos, a little romance, some tragedy, good action, and a "finding yourself" theme.

P.S. Perhaps not as important, but I actually stayed to watch the credits, every time, because the music and 8-bit animation are just as entertaining as the movie.

Best watch ever

Invicta 0534 Reserve Chronograph Polyurethane

Invicta 0534 Reserve Chronograph Polyurethane

Like it. Love it.I usually buy watches in 40 case diameter. Invicta for men un-usually have good time-pieces in a bigger size (46, 52 etc; other watches like Omega, fossil etc have it in 40)so after a lot of searching I was finally able to narrow it down to this one (yes for women, I know) that has my wrist size. This fits quite well (not small in size). The rose gold looks awesome. The quality looks and feels superb. Very well made and designed. And you can tell its of really good quality. This watch can compete against a Rolex (I'm not a big fan of leather straps that eventually "wrinkle", so a polyurethane strap works for me esp. for a 500M depth watch).

FYI: Initially, I was worried that the watch I received was not working b/c the hour/minute/seconds hands were not moving even after I tried to change the time and the date. After fiddling with the pushers, I found that the pushers seem to activate the main "watch" function. Pusher "A" actually moves the main seconds hand second by second for each click of the pusher. Nicely synchronized. The manual is not that helpful though. And this is my second Invicta.

another great Michael Munroe thriller

The Doll Vanessa Michael Munroe

The Doll Vanessa Michael Munroe

Taylor Stevens gets better with each book. This--"The Doll" (Crown 2013)--is her third in the Vanessa Michael Munroe series, and in my estimation, the best. Her Munroe character is unlike any other out there in the thriller genre. She is severely damaged by events in her life, but uses those scars to thrive as an informationist--finding information and sometimes people for others. With spot-on instincts, the ability to connect the dots even when she can't see them, and a facility with both mental and physical weapons, she is not someone you want to anger.

In this third book, she has found a level of peace with Miles Bradford, a man who cherishes her for what she is, watches her back, and understands her needs. That is shattered when she is kidnapped by the Doll Maker, an international human trafficker, to deliver another kidnapped woman into the hands of a psychotic misogynist. The Doll Maker knows threatening Munroe's life won't work for she cares little whether she lives or dies, so instead, dangles the life of one of her few friends, promising to release them both once she has succeeded in her mission. She complies, hoping Bradford will rescue her friend while she figures out how to save the second kidnapped woman. Munroe uses the full gamut of mental and physical tricks in an impossible quest to bring everyone out alive, barely maintaining control of the voices in her mind insisting she solve the problem with extreme violence, not mental canny.

And then the Doll Maker makes a mistake. He kills Noah, the rare man Munroe allowed into her life. The last man she loved, if she let herself admit that. Now, Munroe will not be satisfied with simply escaping with the life of her charge. Now, she must destroy the Doll Maker, his organization, and everyone around them.

Stevens is a unique writer, with an almost stream of consciousness approach to the life-and-death plot. When the reader is with Munroe, we feel her pain, her battle to do what must be done while tamping down the demons that constantly lurk below the surface of her consciousness. Every minute of the day, she struggles to control her self-conscious, her addictions, the fury at injustice that becomes a visceral presence trying to control her thoughts and actions. Where the story could be considered a fairly typical plot, Vanessa Michael Munroe make it anything but.

If you haven't read the first two books, read those before Doll Maker. Then, sign up with Crown to be notified every time Stevens publishes a new book.

I am always trying to convince my friends to watch what I consider my favorite movies. Often they see them and I can tell they become bored or not entirely impressed. At first I usually got mad and could not understand why someone would not love a movie like Vertigo. Then I realized something very important. I have seen the movie numerous times and have also read many critical insights about it. The first time I saw Vertigo I thought it was good. The second time I saw it I knew that it would become one of my favorite films. I recommend watching this movie once. Then going back several weeks later and watching it again. It works on so many subtle levels that it actually is better to see it when you already know the basic outline. Fully enjoying this film takes time and knowledge. It is like classical music that may sound good as a melody, but becomes an obsession when you know a little about the history of the composer and the historical context it was written in. Vertigo belongs to that short list of films that actually becomes better with each viewing

A laugh out loud back in time romance

Geek Girl Scandalous Earl ebook

Geek Girl Scandalous Earl ebook

LOL, Sally was the funnist character. Usually bitches die first, but damn, she was given the honor of the Queen B (head demon). A cameo I noticed from the first movie, was the black guy that got killed in both movies. What was the use to bring someone back from the previous movie, just to kill them again. Maybe the movie was trying to reach its qouta with the minorities on the cast LOL. I actually like this one better then the first one. I liked how it had built up suspense by showing some of the complex tentants watching the same special on tv about the demons, and all of the tentants come in contact with each other in times of need when the demons went on a blood feast. The birth of the baby was REALLY RAMDOM, and so was the scene that showed sally boyfriend and his friends getting in a wreak with the lil boy's (who left alone in the complex) parents.( He was wayyyy to young to be by himself at late night) It had NOTHING TO DO WITH THE DEMONS IN THE COMPLEX. I can see if they actually arrived at the complex and became a demon or helped out which would make more sense. I can say NO ONE (or NOTHING lol) WAS SPARED from being turned into a demon. Never the less, this is one of the first movies that scared the hell out of me when I was a kid. The speical effects were damn good for an 80s horror movie.
