It's a Wonderful Death (not)

The Downs Being Dead ebook

The Downs Being Dead ebook

I nearly gave up on this book in the first chapter or so, it was so bizarre - and so violent, but I am SO GLAD I kept reading. Not only did it turn out to be fun to enter this world of "temps" (people cryogenically frozen and waiting to be revivified) and to spend time with them as they discover how to "make a life" for themselves, how to "live" in the meantime! We journey with Robert and Suzette, Maggie and Joe, and others and the "living members" of their families as they meet and discover what they can and cannot do in their ghostlike condition, as they learn to create a life for themselves that is rich and fun and loving and vibrant and caring.

I thought the very end was a bit weird. Having suspended belief to enjoy and enter into the world the author creates with its own "laws of nature", the ending seemed jarring, and thrust upon the characters, and the reader. I was saddened to face "the end", as were the characters. Even so, I really enjoyed the unfolding discoveries of the boundaries of their existence and "the ups and downs of being dead".

Kudos to the author, M.R. Cornelius. I look forward to reading more from this author.

  1. I have a new Kindle for Christmas, and am delighted! Do any of you out there who use e readers,, have any tips on places/sites on buying books for it? I´m not interested in buying a book of Russian poetry, or old Dickens classics etc, I like modern authors, Biographies, and of course top sellers, any advice would be very much appreciated!

  3. Or download it? Preferably an adobe reader or just the print, but I will settle for an audiobook if I must. Thanks!

  4. We have a house with some foundation damage. Because of that, water has been coming into the basement whenever it rains. We have completely torn out all drywall that was affected and cleaned everything down to the concrete floor. Once we get the foundation fixed and stopped the water from coming in, do we still need to do something to kill the mold? If so, what?

  5. I listen to an audio-book while I sleep. I wake up open a new book put that down open another go to bed audio-book and the same again. I even read in the bathroom, in the bath, walking the dogs, shopping in a supermarket. I even walked onto the middle of the road and almost got run over because I was reading. Is there a problem?

  7. I am really torn between self publishing my book- getting out there for people to read and keeping all the profits- and getting it published through a company- but then I might have to wait like a year and then I dont have full rights over my book and I wont get all the profits...but the book will go further and be promoted more...if I were to get an agent, what kind of costs am I looking at? thanks!
